Going back to college after a break can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Here are 5 fun back-to-school activities for college students to help break the ice, build connections, and get the semester off to a great start:
- Campus Scavenger Hunt: Design a scavenger hunt that takes you and your friends all around the campus. This can help any new students become familiar with the campus, and old students to rediscover it or find even more gems they never knew about. End the hunt with a small prize or a treat at the best spot on campus.
- Potluck Picnic: Have a picnic on the campus grounds where everyone brings a dish. This can represent their hometown, culture, or just something they love to make. It’s a delicious way to learn more about each other! On our college campus we had a perfect duck pond with grassy area that was shaded and perfect for these kind of picnics.
- Themed Costume Party: Host a party where everyone comes dressed as something related to their major, favorite book, movie, etc. This can be both funny and a great conversation starter. Prediction: Barbie costume parties are going to be all the rage Fall 2023 – you heard it here first.
- Outdoor Movie Night: Set up a projector and screen to watch a popular movie on the campus lawn. Provide blankets and popcorn for a relaxed evening. Food = dating opportunities people!
- Outdoor Game Night – Throwback Style: Set up a projector and throw a wild Mario Kart tournament. Personally my favorite Mario Kart is still on the Nintendo 64. It would be a sweet gathering and I’m sure would draw crowds.
- Sporting Events: Organize a fun sports day or match watch party. Most colleges have sporting events that start before the semester like soccer, football or volleyball. If you would prefer to be involved in the action, set up your own sports day to play with friends/people out around campus in the grassy areas! Ultimate frisbee, soccer or outdoor volleyball can always draw a quick crowd.
- Karaoke or Open Mic Night: Host a night where students can showcase their talents or just have fun singing their favorite songs. It’s a great way to let loose and enjoy each other’s company. Start the night with a great chorus of the school fight song in preparation for football season!
College was one of our absolute favorite times. Enjoy the fun and meet as many people as possible! You will never have another experience quite like it.
